USD1 Stablecoin Surpasses $4B in Circulation Amid Regulatory Scrutiny

World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin has surpassed $4 billion in circulation since its launch in March 2025. The company attributes this growth to institutional demand rather than any ties to President Donald Trump's administration.

Citing a major transaction involving Abu Dhabi-backed investment company MGX, which used $2 billion in USD1 to complete an investment in Binance, World Liberty CEO Zach Witkoff emphasized the token's adoption as evidence of its own merits. The OCC has conditionally approved a national trust bank charter tied to World Liberty, which would bring operations under one federally supervised entity if finalized.

However, regulatory access and foreign ownership concerns have been raised by Democratic lawmakers, who argue that Trump's financial interest in the company creates a conflict with his administration's role in regulating digital assets. The OCC has addressed some of these concerns in its approval decision, stating that non-U.S. investors are not considered principal shareholders of the proposed trust bank.
