USDC Drives Stablecoin Market Growth with $584M Weekly Boost
The stablecoin market has experienced significant growth in recent times, led by Circle's USDC. Over a seven-day period, USDC added $584 million to its market cap, contributing to a combined increase of $1 billion across three tokens: USDC, Ethena's USDe, and PayPal's PYUSD.
Total stablecoin supply has reached between $303 billion and $310 billion, with USDC accounting for approximately 24% of the total market. Tether's USDT still dominates the market, holding around 60% of the total market share at approximately $184 billion.
USDC's adjusted on-chain transaction volume has been notable, capturing between 60% and 70% of adjusted transactions in multiple periods throughout 2026. This is despite trailing USDT in total supply. The token's momentum was demonstrated in August 2026 when it added $1.5 billion to its supply in a single week.
The three tokens contributing to the growth have different architectures and risk profiles. Circle holds cash and short-term Treasuries as reserves for USDC, while Ethena maintains its dollar peg through a delta-neutral strategy for USDe. PYUSD, issued by PayPal on Paxos infrastructure, has experienced supply contractions in prior months.
