USDC Stablecoin Growth Outpaces Market Expansion
The stablecoin market has seen significant growth in recent weeks, with Circle's USDC token leading the charge. According to data reviewed by Crypto Briefing, USDC added around $584 million to its market cap in just seven days, driving a combined $1 billion increase across the sector.
This is not an isolated incident, USDC has been consistently minting at a rapid pace throughout 2026, with some periods seeing it capture up to 70% of adjusted on-chain transaction volume. In comparison, Tether's USDT still holds around 60% market share and $184 billion in supply.
USDC's growth is largely due to its regulatory-backed infrastructure, which has earned it a reputation as a secure and compliant stablecoin. This has allowed Circle to attract institutional users and drive on-chain transaction volume.
The stability of the USDC token is not the only story in crypto, Zcash saw a 20% price surge to near-decade highs around $1,023 to $1,051, triggering $34.5 million to $44 million in short liquidations tied to Grayscale's ZCSH ETF inflows.
While the stablecoin market continues to expand, there are risks associated with leverage and ETF inflows. A sharp reversal could trigger a liquidation cascade, making the market fragile at present.
