USDT Security Risk Exposed as Nearly Half Controlled by Two Signature Keys
A recent report from security firm Hacken found that nearly half of the USDT stablecoin on the Tron network is controlled by just two signature keys. This means that if an attacker gains access to these keys, they can manipulate the contract and potentially drain user funds.
The report also revealed that Tether's company rating was upgraded from D to C by Bluechip due to KPMG's audit showing a surplus of $6.8 billion in reserves as of December 31, 2025. However, Hacken only gave USDT a security score of 3.3 out of 10 and pointed out that the contract lacks automatic reserve proof checks and has no limit on token creation.
Furthermore, Hacken noted that Tether reused six signature keys across three chains: Ethereum, Avalanche, and Celo, which could lead to cross-chain risks. The report emphasized the need for greater transparency and security measures in the stablecoin market.
