USDT Transfer Times: A Tale of Two Networks
Tether's USDT is a widely used stablecoin designed to maintain a value close to $1. However, the cost and speed of moving it depend heavily on the blockchain network selected.
The two most popular options are TRC20 USDT on TRON and ERC20 USDT on Ethereum. While both represent the same dollar-pegged asset, they operate on different networks that are not interchangeable.
TRON produces blocks roughly every three seconds, allowing TRC20 USDT transactions to receive an initial blockchain confirmation within seconds. Typical TRC20 confirmation times range from 3-10 seconds, although exchanges may wait for multiple confirmations before crediting a deposit.
ERC20 USDT operates on Ethereum, where blocks are produced approximately every 12 seconds. On-chain transfers can appear quickly, but final deposit times can range from seconds to several minutes depending on congestion and exchange confirmation requirements.
