Uzbekistan Central Bank Introduces HUMO Stablecoin for Pilot Settlements

Share

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has introduced HUMO, a stablecoin pegged to the national currency and backed by government securities. The token is part of a pilot project aimed at speeding up commercial settlements in the country. For the next three years, 20 legal entities will be allowed to participate in the test.

The new instrument will enable payments for goods, works, and services within Uzbekistan. HUMO will be tested on banking, processing, and blockchain infrastructure, with the Central Bank expecting increased transparency and security in commercial settlements.

Humo Digital has been appointed as the operator of the stablecoin, working alongside project partner Asterium, a licensed participant in the crypto market. The launch of HUMO is part of Uzbekistan's broader agenda to develop financial technologies, blockchain, and payment infrastructure.
