Uzbekistan Joins Tax-Free Crypto Mining Haven with 9-Year Exemption
Uzbekistan has become the latest government to offer tax exemptions for cryptocurrency miners. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution establishing the Besqala Mining Valley, which grants miners zero corporate income tax, property tax, land tax, and value-added tax (VAT) until January 1, 2035.
This move is part of a growing trend where governments view crypto mining as an industry worth attracting rather than taxing away. By offering structured fee models on mining revenues and above-market electricity tariffs, governments can generate consistent income while driving construction, employment, and foreign investment into underdeveloped regions.
Other jurisdictions that offer tax exemptions for crypto miners include El Salvador, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Belarus, and Georgia. However, these countries have notable trade-offs, such as 0% capital gains tax on Bitcoin in El Salvador but commercial mining entities still interacting with standard income tax frameworks.
The United States accounts for roughly 40% of global hashrate, driven by Texas energy markets, Wyoming's regulatory environment, and Georgia's industrial infrastructure. However, state-level fragmentation means conditions vary significantly.
