Validator Rewards Exceed Intended Levels, Threatening Core Token Supply
Core DAO's validator rewards exceeded intended levels for a small group of validators on August 31, creating an unresolved supply question for the CORE token. The project said user assets were safe and network security unaffected, but did not disclose the excess amount or technical cause.
The issue occurred in the protocol's reward issuance process, which combines newly minted tokens with transaction fees. Core DAO promised a postmortem after the issue is contained. The missing amount is central because it could have accelerated rewards already scheduled for later distribution or added issuance outside the project's planned path.
Coinbase opened an incident at 04:41 UTC and paused CORE sends/receives, while LBank suspended deposits around 05:00 UTC. The exchanges' restrictions differ: Coinbase limited sends and receives, while LBank's notice covered deposits only.
