Vance Ditches Crypto Plan, Touts Economic Growth Amid Record $40T Debt
The US national debt has surpassed $40 trillion, prompting Vice President JD Vance to address potential solutions during a Newsmax interview. When asked about using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and XRP as part of a crypto reserve to offset the debt, Vance did not endorse this approach.
Instead, he pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan to achieve economic growth that outpaces the nation's debt. According to Vance, Bessent has a 'discreet plan' supported by President Trump to make the US economy grow faster than its debt, and they are on track.
Vance also mentioned the expected influx of nearly $19 trillion in foreign investment over the next decade, which could expand the tax base and support the Treasury market. Additionally, he touched upon the administration's interest in creating a US sovereign wealth fund that would focus on domestic equities, energy, and other strategic assets.
The fund might include Bitcoin as part of its asset mix, but it is not seen as a direct tool for paying down the debt. The administration's immediate crypto focus appears to be regulation, with Vance backing the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish clearer rules for digital assets and blockchain projects.
