VanEck Flags Capitulation Signals as Bitcoin Volatility Hits Multi-Year Lows
Asset manager VanEck has flagged capitulation signals in Bitcoin's market, despite its price barely moving. In a new analysis released on August 18, VanEck's digital assets research team reported that eight of the 12 indicators in their proprietary 'Bitcoin Capitulation Check' are now active.
This sharp reversal comes after just one month, when none of the signals were firing. The collapse in realized volatility to 27.2% annualized is also noteworthy, described by VanEck as 'unusually still' for an asset known for double-digit daily swings.
VanEck's analysis draws on a mix of on-chain metrics, derivatives positioning, and market structure data. Most indicators must fall within the bottom 15% of their recorded history to trigger, while metrics where elevated readings indicate stress use a top 10% threshold.
