VanEck Predicts $1M Bitcoin Target as Base-Case Scenario
VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel believes Bitcoin could reach $1 million per coin within five years. In an appearance on CNBC's Halftime Report, Sigel outlined his firm's base-case scenario for Bitcoin, stating that it is not an outlier bet but a realistic target.
Sigel pointed to demographic shifts and rising allocations from younger investors as the structural drivers behind his prediction. He also cited the first central bank purchase of Bitcoin for reserves as proof that adoption is moving beyond retail speculation.
Comparing Bitcoin to the video game industry, Sigel argued that an asset class once seen as niche tends to broaden across age groups, with newcomers rarely walking away. This shift in perspective could contribute to the growth and eventual price increase of Bitcoin.
Notably, Sigel acknowledged that the road ahead will be rough. He noted that Bitcoin's correlation with the Nasdaq has hit a five-year high, suggesting macro forces are steering the current rally rather than crypto-specific speculation.
