VanEck Sees Bitcoin Hitting $1M in Five Years as Base Case Scenario
Matthew Sigel, head of digital assets research at VanEck, believes that Bitcoin (BTC) could reach $1 million per coin within five years. This prediction is not just a wild guess; it's considered the base case scenario by the firm. Sigel made this call on CNBC's Halftime Report, citing demographic shifts and rising allocations from younger investors as structural drivers of adoption.
He pointed to the first central bank purchase of Bitcoin for reserves as proof that institutional investment is increasing beyond retail speculation. Sigel also compared Bitcoin to the video game industry, noting that an asset class once seen as niche tends to broaden across age groups, with newcomers rarely walking away.
The current price of Bitcoin would need to climb more than 12-fold from its current level of around $81,042 to validate this prediction. Sigel acknowledged that the road ahead will be rough, but he sees a constructive outlook due to low derivatives market froth and bearish positioning.
