Verus-Ethereum Bridge Hit by Second Major Exploit This Year

A major exploit hit the Verus-Ethereum Bridge, causing approximately $7.54 million in losses.

The attack occurred on July 23 and is believed to be linked to a previously exploited vulnerability found in May, when $11.6 million was stolen from the same bridge.

According to Blockaid, the attacker used the bridge's import path to trigger unbacked Ethereum-side payouts, draining funds from the bridge reserves.

SunSec analyzed the situation and noted that the root cause of the problem remained exploitable for 66 days, resulting in a combined loss of approximately $19.1 million.
