Veteran Bitcoin Group Takes Over Boltz After Founder Exodus
Boltz, a Bitcoin swap service, has been taken over by an unnamed group of 'veteran Bitcoiners' after its original founders stepped down. The new operators have agreed to provide capital and engineering resources to restore swaps as soon as possible.
The company suspended its service on August 3 due to increasing frequency, intensity, and sophistication of AI-assisted attacks over several months. Although user funds were never at risk because the service is non-custodial, several attacks succeeded and caused losses.
Boltz described itself as a bootstrapped five-person startup that lacked the resources to withstand the attacks in the long term. The new operators' goal is to find and fix vulnerabilities, with work already underway.
