Veteran Utility Player Jon Berti Calls It Quits After 15-Year Career
Jon Berti, a former utility player for the New York Yankees, has officially announced his retirement from professional baseball. The 36-year-old spent over 15 years in the sport and played for several teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins, and Chicago Cubs.
Berti's time with the Yankees came in 2024 after he was acquired in a trade before Opening Day. He provided valuable defensive versatility and baserunning ability but suffered a left calf injury that sidelined him for much of the season.
The Yankees non-tendered Berti after the season, allowing him to enter free agency. He subsequently joined the Cubs in 2025 but eventually wound down his career. In his retirement announcement, Berti thanked fans who supported him throughout his journey and expressed gratitude for the opportunities and lessons baseball provided.
