Vietnam Introduces Enforcement Rules for Crypto Market, Shifts Focus to Licensed Exchanges
Vietnam has introduced new enforcement rules for its cryptocurrency market to discourage unlicensed activity and establish stronger oversight. The new regulations, which take effect on September 1, aim to shift crypto trading from offshore platforms to licensed domestic exchanges.
The framework includes penalties for investors using unauthorized platforms, companies offering unapproved digital asset services, and breaches involving customer verification, reporting obligations, token issuance, and handling of account data. The measures are part of a pilot program intended to strengthen regulatory oversight, improve compliance, and enhance investor protection in Vietnam's active cryptocurrency market.
The move illustrates how governments are shifting from debating crypto regulation to determining its supervision. Licensing regimes, compliance obligations, and enforcement mechanisms are becoming central elements of national digital asset policies as authorities balance innovation with financial stability and consumer protection.
