Vietnam Shifts from Cryptocurrency Grey Area to Institutional Framework
Vietnam's digital transformation strategy is accelerating, and its cryptocurrency regulatory landscape is shifting from uncertainty to a more structured framework. According to Echobit Labs' research report, Vietnam is moving beyond an exploratory stage and focusing on building a regulatory environment that balances financial security, consumer protection, and digital innovation.
The State Bank of Vietnam has clarified that cryptocurrencies cannot be used as a means of payment for goods and services, but ownership and investment activities have not been comprehensively banned. This has resulted in a market where many digital asset transactions continue through international exchanges and peer-to-peer channels.
Echobit Labs' analysis highlights the absence of a dedicated legal framework as Vietnam's current regulatory challenge. Cryptocurrency exchanges, wallet providers, custody services, decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, and stablecoin-related activities remain subject to evolving oversight under existing financial regulations, civil law, and anti-money laundering requirements.
