Vietnam's Crypto Exchange Licensing: A Delicate Balance Between Innovation and Compliance
Vietnam is taking steps towards becoming a major player in the cryptocurrency market, but its approach to regulation has sparked both optimism and apprehension.
The Ministry of Finance has implemented a five-year pilot program aimed at cultivating a regulated market, with stringent guidelines for security and reliability. However, only five companies have managed to clear the first round of assessments, leaving many startups struggling to meet the hefty requirement of 10 trillion Vietnamese dong (around $383 million) in charter capital.
The regulations also mandate that at least 65% of this capital must come from institutional shareholders, effectively shutting out smaller entities. This could lead to a market dominated by established players, stifling innovation and competition.
