Violent Crypto Thefts Skyrocket to $124M in H1 2026
Violent cryptocurrency thefts, involving physical coercion, have surged in the first half of 2026. According to CertiK's Intel3D H1 2026 Wrench Attacks report, there were 52 verified incidents resulting in $124,180,400 in recorded exposure.
This represents a 33.3% year-over-year increase in incidents and an 11.8-fold rise in recorded losses compared to the same period last year.
Chainalysis notes that the overlap between crypto activity and violent crime is growing, with a correlation observed between these violent incidents and bitcoin price movements.
