Stablecoins were meant to bypass traditional payment systems, but they're now positioning themselves as operating systems. Visa and Mastercard are embedding themselves within the infrastructure of stablecoin payments, supplying wallets, controls, interoperability, security, and settlement services.

Their goal is to connect different forms of money, institutions, and commercial transactions. The shift comes as stablecoins move from crypto trading infrastructure into regulated institutional payments.

Banks are under pressure to offer tokenized services without taking on uncontrolled technology or compliance risk. Visa's new Stablecoin Platform gives banks, fintechs, and crypto businesses a managed environment in which they can mint, redeem, hold, and transfer stablecoins.

Mastercard is expanding on-chain settlement across its network using regulated stablecoins, including USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP, RLUSD, and SoFiUSD. The goal is to support these assets across several blockchains while preserving fraud safeguards, dispute processes, and security standards.
