Visa and Upbit Partner on Stablecoin Payments and AI Commerce
Visa and Dunamu, the parent company of South Korean crypto exchange Upbit, have partnered to explore the use of stablecoins in payments and commerce. The two companies aim to combine Dunamu's digital asset technology with Visa's global payments network to develop services for major markets.
The partnership will focus on developing payment flows, remittance rails, and settlement mechanisms using stablecoins. Dunamu has stated that it is assessing multiple stablecoin projects rather than committing to a single token.
One of the stablecoin projects being considered is Open USD (OUSD), proposed by Open Standard, which has already gained over 140 company participants, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase, and BlackRock. However, Dunamu clarified that OUSD is just one of several options under review.
The partnership also plans to explore 'agentic commerce,' where AI agents can initiate shopping and payment actions on a user's behalf. This concept combines automated decision-making with digital-asset rails, potentially changing the way consumers experience online transactions.
