Visa and Upbit Partner to Bring Stablecoin Payments to the Global Market
Visa has partnered with Dunamu, parent company of South Korea's Upbit crypto exchange, to explore how stablecoins can be used for payments and cross-border remittances. The two companies will combine Dunamu's digital asset technology with Visa's global payments infrastructure to study product and service opportunities across major markets.
The partnership also aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) for 'agentic commerce', where AI agents can search for products or services and complete purchases and payments on behalf of users. This will involve combining AI with stablecoin-based payment and settlement infrastructure, enabling automated purchasing workflows.
Dunamu is evaluating multiple stablecoin options, including Open Standard's dollar-backed OUSD, which has already gained the support of over 140 companies, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase, and BlackRock. However, Dunamu emphasized that no specific stablecoin has been prioritized for this partnership.
The announcement frames stablecoins, tokenization, and AI as key trends reshaping finance and commerce. By pairing digital asset capabilities with traditional finance, the partnership suggests an attempt to move beyond pilots and toward workable integration models.
