Visa and on-chain data analytics platform Artemis have jointly released a report on agent payment trends, focusing on two 'machine-native payment' protocols.

The report highlights the growth of AI micropayments, with x402 processing $15 million in transactions within one year as of April 21, 2026. This protocol supports high-frequency, small-value payments between machines, with amounts far lower than $1.

x402 has seen over 1.096 billion transactions, involving about 422 thousand buyers and 5,300 sellers, mainly on Base, Solana, and Polygon, settled in USDC.

The report also discusses MPP, developed by Stripe and Tempo with Visa participation, which had been live for 33 days as of mid-March 2026. It processed about $25,000 in transactions, supporting both on-chain crypto payments and fiat settlement.
