Visa Brings Onchain Lending to Everyday Payment Businesses
Visa is integrating its payment settlement data with blockchain-based lending infrastructure to help businesses access working capital more easily.
The company's onchain analytics platform estimates that over $694 billion in stablecoin loans have been processed through onchain lending protocols since 2020, with a significant portion of this activity taking place within the crypto-native market.
Visa is now seeking to extend this activity beyond crypto markets and into everyday payment businesses. By combining VisaNet settlement records with blockchain transaction data, lenders can assess credit risk and determine financing terms for these businesses in a more transparent and programmable way.
The company has already conducted an early test case with Credit Coop, which provided working capital and settlement financing to stablecoin-linked card programs through smart contracts and Visa payment data. This test has financed over $2.5 billion in cumulative settlement volume since 2023, with zero defaults across participating facilities.
