Visa Doubles Down on Stablecoins with New Ecosystem Investments
Visa is expanding its presence in the digital currency space by investing across the stablecoin ecosystem. According to the company's third-quarter earnings call, Visa is actively building infrastructure for blockchain networks, wallet development, and integration of stablecoins into existing payment rails.
The payments giant has joined the Open Standard Consortium to support the issuance of the OpenUSD stablecoin, a regulated fiat-backed digital currency. This move positions Visa alongside other major financial players exploring the potential of digital currencies for mainstream payments.
Visa is also building a dedicated platform that will allow its partners to make payments and settlements using stablecoins. This infrastructure aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset economy, enabling faster and potentially cheaper cross-border transactions.
