Visa Maintains Neutrality Amid Open USD Stablecoin Launch
Visa's CEO Ryan McInerney downplayed concerns that Open USD could threaten Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC in the stablecoin market. During a recent earnings call, McInerney emphasized that Visa will remain neutral among stablecoins and won't be picking winners.
The company supports more than 140 companies participating in the development of Open USD, including Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase, BlackRock, BNY, Google, and several global banks. However, McInerney's comments suggest that Visa's involvement with Open USD is not an exclusive commitment to the token.
Visa has a multi-coin and multi-chain approach, allowing clients to connect securely to various stablecoins, networks, and infrastructure. The company's role is to help clients, rather than picking winners. McInerney stated that Visa will continue to support competing tokens and networks.
