VISA Sees Explosive Growth in Stablecoin-Linked Card Programs
VISA has revealed significant growth in its stablecoin-linked card programs, with over 160 such programs now using its network. Payment volume on those programs has increased by nearly 200% year-over-year, and stablecoin settlement volume has surpassed a $20 billion annualized run rate, representing more than 15x growth from the previous year.
This milestone highlights VISA's increasing adoption of blockchain technology in its core payments infrastructure. Stablecoins are not only changing how money moves but also creating opportunities to rethink financial infrastructure that supports payments, according to Rubail Birwadker, Global Head of Growth Products and Partnerships at VISA.
VISA is now combining VisaNet settlement data with on-chain lending infrastructure, allowing stablecoin-linked card programs and fintechs to access working capital. Since 2020, more than $694 billion in stablecoin-denominated loans have been sent through on-chain lending protocols, according to VISA's Onchain Analytics Dashboard.
