Visa Taps Onchain Lending for Fintechs and Stablecoin Programs
Visa is harnessing onchain lending to help fintechs and stablecoin-linked card programs access working capital. The company says its stablecoin settlement volume has exceeded $20 billion annually, with over $2.5 billion in cumulative settlement volume supported by an early financing model involving Credit Coop since 2023.
The payment network giant announced that lenders can use VisaNet settlement data alongside blockchain transaction records to assess a business's performance and determine financing terms. This combination of trusted payment data and onchain technologies aims to unlock new forms of liquidity, making capital more accessible to businesses in transparent, programmable, and efficient ways.
Rubail Birwadker, Visa's global head of growth products and partnerships, stated that stablecoins are changing how money moves and creating opportunities to redesign the infrastructure behind payments. According to Visa, onchain lending protocols have processed over $694 billion in stablecoin loans since 2020, with payment volume across more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs growing nearly 200% year-over-year.
