Vitalik Buterin Debunks AI-Driven Prediction of 50%+ BTC Price Drop
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has responded to predictions that Bitcoin's security and resilience could be compromised by artificial intelligence (AI) in the next two years, leading to a 50% or greater price drop.
Investor Liron Shapira made the claim on September 6th, stating he had '50% confidence' in his prediction. However, Buterin took the opposite side of this view, explaining that he is 'quite optimistic about cybersecurity in the long term'.
According to Buterin, the primary problem facing Bitcoin is getting the transition right, rather than its security being compromised by AI.
Buterin stated that even if a hash function or Proof of Work (PoW) itself were to be broken, this would be 'extremely unlikely'. He also noted that upgrades to client software and mining pools could be made without requiring broad social consensus.
