Vitalik Buterin Dismisses AI-Driven Bitcoin Price Crash Prediction
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has responded to warnings that artificial intelligence (AI) will cause a Bitcoin price crash. Liron Shapira, an AI risk commentator, predicted that BTC could fall more than 50% in value within two years due to security risks.
The main concern is that AI could erode the guarantees that holders believe protect the network. However, Buterin remains optimistic about cybersecurity and expects Bitcoin to handle issues well without requiring social consensus.
In a recent exchange on X, Shapira assigned 50% confidence to his prediction of a BTC price drop of more than 50% over two years. Buterin answered with a contrary view, stating that he is 'quite optimistic about cybersecurity in the long term' and sees the primary problem as getting the transition right.
Buterin also noted that Bitcoin's security relies on mining power and cryptographic hashing, which he believes AI will not be able to compromise. He further stated that any issues that do not require social consensus can be handled by upgrading clients and mining pools.
