Vitalik Buterin Updates Ethereum Roadmap with Quantum Safety and Rollup Priorities
Ethereum's long-term technical priorities have shifted as the network continues to evolve. Co-founder Vitalik Buterin compared the updated roadmap to the original 2023 Strawmap, highlighting changes in order and implementation of various goals.
Quantum security has become a top priority, with post-quantum scaling also gaining importance. The current roadmap considers LeanSPHINCS signatures, signature aggregation, and 'zkzk frames' as potential solutions to replace cryptographic systems vulnerable to quantum computers.
Ethereum is exploring native rollups, which would move part of the verification process into the base protocol, reducing custom infrastructure needs for layer-2 networks. The updated roadmap also places emphasis on simplifying the protocol specification through formal verification, leveraging advances in artificial intelligence.
