Vivaldi CEO Slams Cryptocurrencies as Threat to Democracy
Vivaldi CEO Jon von Tetzchner has renewed his criticism of cryptocurrencies, this time calling for a ban on them due to their perceived threat to democracy.
In an article on Vivaldi's website, von Tetzchner stated that the lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency industry allows companies with large cash reserves to influence politicians and undermine democratic institutions.
This is not the first time von Tetzchner has spoken out against cryptocurrencies. In January 2022, he wrote that behind the hype surrounding digital assets lies 'a pyramid masquerading as a currency.'
Von Tetzchner also drew parallels between the lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency industry and the use of user profiles for targeted advertising in browsers.
