VTHO Soars 30% Ahead of VeChain Mainnet Hard Fork
VeChain's VTHO token has seen a significant surge in value, increasing by over 30% in a day. This move is not just a flash in the pan, but rather a reaction to the upcoming mainnet hard fork scheduled for this Wednesday. The fork, known as 'Interstellar', will bring VeChainThor's Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) up to date with Ethereum's latest standards.
The Interstellar fork will introduce several key features, including transient storage, native BLS12-381 and secp256r1 cryptography, and cheaper memory operations. One of the most significant changes is the addition of secp256r1 cryptography, which will enable passkey and hardware-backed wallet logins. This is a major development for onboarding non-crypto users.
VTHO's price surge can be attributed to the tokenomics that have been in place since last year's upgrades, Galactica and Hayabusa. These upgrades introduced a dynamic fee market with a 100% base-fee burn, meaning a real, permanent chunk of VTHO is removed from supply rather than recycled. Additionally, issuance of VTHO is now tied exclusively to actively staked VeChain (VET) through the StarGate platform.
The combination of these tokenomics and the upcoming hard fork has created a perfect storm for VTHO's price increase. The current market cap of $95.07 million and the 24-hour volume-to-market-cap ratio of 249% suggest that this surge is not just a flash in the pan, but rather a sustained upward trend.
