Wall Street Dominates Crypto Markets as Institutional Traders Reach Record Share
Institutional crypto trading has reached a record high of 72% as Wall Street stabilizes the market, according to Coinbase's latest report.
The firm recorded that professional and institutional clients drove 81.08% of total trading volume in Q4 2025, reaching $237 billion in the quarter alone.
This represents a significant shift from just a few years ago when institutional activity on Coinbase sat at roughly 20% back in Q1 2018.
The numbers behind this takeover are staggering, with CME Group recording crypto trading volumes exceeding 340,000 contracts in Q3 2025, representing more than 200% year-over-year increases in crypto futures and options activity.
