Wall Street Goes Mainstream with Blockchain
Wall Street institutions are increasingly turning to blockchain technology as a core part of their financial infrastructure. According to CoinMarketCap, banks and payment companies are testing blockchain rails for various use cases, including deposits, securities, stablecoins, and settlement.
The trend marks a significant shift from the initial phase of institutional crypto adoption, which focused on trading desks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Now, Wall Street is moving beyond mere investment access to integrate blockchain into its foundational plumbing.
Citi, Mastercard, Visa, DTCC, and several major US banks are leading this charge with various blockchain infrastructure projects. These initiatives aim to make transaction settlement faster and more efficient through the use of stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
