Wall Street Titans Launch Tokenized Money Market Funds
Goldman Sachs and Bank of New York Mellon have joined forces to create a system allowing institutional investors to purchase tokenized money market funds. This innovation marks a significant step in digitizing the $7.1 trillion money market industry.
The initiative, which has attracted major fund companies including BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, and Federated Hermes, enables BNY clients to invest in money market funds with ownership recorded on Goldman's blockchain platform. This tokenized structure offers yield payments to owners, unlike stablecoins, making it attractive to hedge funds, pensions, and corporations for cash management.
According to Laide Majiyagbe, BNY's global head of liquidity, financing and collateral, 'The step of tokenizing is important, because today that will enable seamless and efficient transactions, without the frictions that happen in traditional markets.'
