Wall Street's Crypto Takeover: Two Major Exchanges Wind Down Operations
Wall Street's influence on cryptocurrency is becoming increasingly apparent as two major exchanges, BitMEX and BitMart, announce wind-down plans. The move follows a year of bear market pressures that have forced numerous projects to close or restructure.
BitMEX will cease exchange services on September 23, while new registrations will stop immediately, and users can continue to log in and withdraw after the trading platform closes. BitMart's wind-down is more drawn out, with trading scheduled to end August 26, and formal platform operations due to conclude on January 31, 2027.
The wave of closures and restructurings has spread across various sectors, including exchanges, protocols, wallets, games, and analytics products. This contraction is not a consistent market indicator but rather a sign of hostile operating conditions that have led some businesses to run out of sustainable economics or cut product lines.
