Wall Street's Quiet Blockchain Revolution
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan argues that traditional and crypto investors are missing the scale of Wall Street's move towards blockchain-based infrastructure due to anchoring bias. This phenomenon causes investors to fixate on initial information, leading them to miss fundamental shifts in financial infrastructure.
Hougan points out several developments demonstrating a structural shift in how traditional finance engages with blockchain technology. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins launched 'Project Crypto', a commission-wide effort to modernize securities regulation for on-chain markets. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink stated that the industry is entering the early stages of tokenizing all assets, and the company has followed through by launching its $2 billion BUIDL tokenized Treasury fund on Uniswap (UNI).
Major banks such as JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo are discussing a joint stablecoin. Fidelity is hiring a DeFi vaults manager. Hougan notes that despite these moves, investors have failed to recognize the changes due to anchoring bias.
