Wall Street's Quiet Blockchain Revolution Is Being Mispriced
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan says the crypto market is being mispriced due to anchoring bias. This phenomenon causes investors to fixate on initial information, preventing them from recognizing the scale of Wall Street's shift toward blockchain-based infrastructure.
Hougan points to recent developments as evidence of this structural shift. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins launched 'Project Crypto' to modernize securities regulation for on-chain markets, while BlackRock CEO Larry Fink declared that the industry is entering the early stages of tokenizing all assets.
Major financial institutions are taking steps to adopt blockchain technology. For example, Apollo has tokenized its $700 billion Diversified Credit Fund across six blockchains and plans to acquire a stake in Morpho. JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo are discussing the launch of a joint stablecoin.
Hougan believes that investors have failed to register these changes due to anchoring bias. He notes that tokenized real-world assets have grown sharply from 2020 to 2025, but questions remain about where value will accrue in the space.
