Walmart Stock Tumbles 24% Amid Mixed Quarterly Results
Walmart's (WMT) stock has declined by nearly 24% from its 52-week peak of $135.15, reached in May, to its current price of $102.63.
The company's recent quarterly reports have been underwhelming, with second quarter comparable U.S. sales coming in at 2.6%, falling short of the 3.8% consensus forecast and triggering a 9.2% single-day decline.
However, Walmart's advertising segment has emerged as a bright spot, with a 38% annual growth rate and its ad plus membership income accounting for approximately one-third of total operating profit.
Despite the recent weakness, Wall Street sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive, with 29 out of 32 analysts maintaining Buy ratings and a consensus price target of $129.57 suggesting roughly 26% potential upside.
