Warren Probes Commerce Department Over AI Chip Exports to UAE Amid Trump Crypto Ties
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren is questioning the Commerce Department's policy of granting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) broader access to advanced AI chips, citing concerns over potential ties to President Donald Trump's family business.
The scrutiny comes after it was revealed that an Abu Dhabi entity backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial in January. Another company linked to the UAE also completed a $2 billion investment in crypto exchange Binance using World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin.
Warren sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick seeking an explanation for the administration's approach to the UAE after two investments connected the country to Trump family-linked crypto interests. She argues that the department's actions raise questions about whether the president's cryptocurrency business interests are influencing agency operations and national security policy.
The inquiry adds to a broader push by Democratic lawmakers to examine possible influence from foreign crypto capital on U.S. policy decisions, blending concerns over export controls, geopolitical risk, and the growing intersection between digital asset ventures and government decision-making.
