Warren Probes Possible Conflict Between Trump Crypto Ties and AI Export Policy

Share

US Senator Elizabeth Warren has called on the Commerce Department to explain whether the Trump family's cryptocurrency business interests influenced the easing of export restrictions on artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The controversy centers around an investment relationship between the UAE and World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency business linked to President Donald Trump. In January, an Abu Dhabi-based institution backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial.

Warren raised questions about whether this investment coincided with shifts in U.S. government policy, pointing out that the Commerce Department changed the UAE's export-control classification to 'Country Group A:5', giving it broader access to advanced technology products, including AI chips.
