Warren Probes UAE-Trump Crypto Ties Amid US AI Chip Export Policy Easing
Sen. Elizabeth Warren is questioning whether investments by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Trump family's cryptocurrency business are linked to US policy on AI chip exports to the Gulf state.
The UAE institution, backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a crypto project tied to the Trump family.
Additionally, a UAE-linked company invested $2 billion in Binance using WLFI's stablecoin, USD1, as the payment method.
Warren sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick seeking an explanation for the easing of AI chip export restrictions on the UAE, citing these investment links.
The Commerce Department recently reclassified the UAE into the 'A:5 country group,' broadening its access to license-free exports, including advanced semiconductors.
