US Senator Elizabeth Warren has questioned the US Commerce Department's policy towards the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a series of investments linked to President Donald Trump's family-backed cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial.

The UAE investment in question involves two separate deals: an Abu Dhabi entity backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan made a $500 million investment in World Liberty Financial in January, and another company linked to the UAE settled a $2 billion investment in crypto exchange Binance using World Liberty's USD1 stablecoin.

Warren sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick asking for an explanation for the US government giving the UAE greater access to AI chips. This change in policy, which occurred after the investments were made, allows the UAE to have more license-free exports, including advanced chips, and also favors license applications involving chips and servers to MGX, the UAE entity that invested $2 billion in Binance.

Warren's letter raises concerns about potential influence from foreign crypto investments on US national security. The probe into the administration's policies on the UAE is part of Democratic lawmakers' ongoing efforts to explore potential connections between foreign investments and Trump's business interests.
