Warren Slams Clarity Act as 'Weak Fig Leaf' Ahead of Key Vote
Senator Elizabeth Warren is set to criticize the Clarity Act on the Senate floor ahead of its key preliminary vote. The bill, aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency market structure, has been a subject of debate among lawmakers.
Warren will argue that a new ethics provision in the measure is 'a weak fig leaf' that won't stop President Donald Trump from making profits from his crypto ventures. She claims the provision would bar senior government officials from issuing digital assets but includes loopholes to allow Trump to keep earning billions of dollars.
Warren will also ask for unanimous consent to pass a separate bill, the Ending Presidential Corruption in Banking Act, which would prohibit certain banking applications and require the termination of charters issued since January 2025. She warns that passing the Clarity Act could have a similar effect, benefiting Trump's crypto empire.
