Warren Slams CLARITY Act Over Presidential Ethics Concerns
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has urged every member of the Senate to vote against the CLARITY Act, citing concerns over presidential ethics and potential risks to consumers and financial stability.
Warren argued that the revised ethics language in the bill would not prevent President Donald Trump from continuing to profit from his existing crypto ventures. She pointed out that Trump has disclosed $1.4 billion in crypto-related income and claimed that legislation regulating an industry where a sitting president holds significant interests requires stronger conflict-of-interest safeguards.
Warren also questioned the enforcement mechanism of the ethics restrictions, arguing that it would leave critical decisions with officials serving under the same president who could potentially face an investigation. She described the current structure as 'a tiny little fig leaf' and claimed that the role given to the U.S. attorney general would not provide sufficient independent enforcement against a sitting president.
