Warsh Scraps Forward Guidance at Federal Reserve
Kevin Warsh, running the Federal Reserve for about three months, has made significant changes to the central bank's communication strategy. At the June 17, 2026 FOMC meeting, the policy statement no longer included forward-looking language that markets had relied on for over a decade.
Warsh also declined to submit his own interest-rate projection in the quarterly dot plot, which charts each Fed official's best guess for where rates are headed. This marks a shift away from forward guidance, a practice where central banks signal their likely future policy moves.
Warsh has argued that forward guidance handcuffed the Fed during the pandemic-era inflation surge, making it harder to pivot when prices started climbing faster than expected. He believes that being committed to its stated path hindered the Fed's ability to react quickly to new data.
