Web3's Inclusion Paradox: Access Does Not Equal Safety
The Web3 financial system has made significant progress in providing open access to anyone with a smartphone and internet connection. However, this access does not necessarily imply that it is safe or practical to use.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, the region experienced $205.7 billion in on-chain value between July 2024 and June 2025, up 51.7% from the previous year. This growth can be attributed to inflation, currency devaluation, limited access to foreign exchange, and the expanding usage of crypto for cross-border payments.
The Web3 system presents a false dichotomy: either a user is left to manage every technical decision alone or they give up control to a centralized platform. Self-custody should not mean self-abandonment, as clients can be given assistance from products without sacrificing control over their assets.
