Weekend Trading of Coinbase Stock Tokens Tests Market Liquidity
Coinbase has introduced new stock tokens linked to Apple, Alphabet, Meta, and Nvidia that can be traded through the weekend on Base.
These B20 stock tokens are designed for eligible users outside of the United States and offer continuous secondary transferability, according to Coinbase. They differ from ordinary US-listed shares and provide a way to trade exposure to these companies' stocks even when Wall Street is closed.
A review of the official Aave V3 Base address book found no reserve for any of the four tokens, meaning that there was no verified live B20 market to measure lending behavior over the weekend. However, prices and volumes were still observable on the secondary market, with traders choosing prices close to the held equity references.
The Chainlink 24/5 total-return feeds used by Base's B20 integration guide hold the last value and its updatedAt timestamp stops advancing on weekends and holidays. This means that a sharp rise in the token price would not automatically lift a feed calculated from the held equity value, requiring explicit handling to avoid relying on stale information for liquidations.
