WEMIX Hit by Second Major Security Breach in Two Years

WEMIX, a blockchain gaming platform, has suffered its second significant security breach in recent history. On July 26, unauthorized parties gained administrative control over the WEMIX$ stablecoin smart contract and stole approximately $724,000.

The attacker exploited this elevated access to create around 5.23 million WEMIX$ tokens through minting operations. These illicitly generated tokens were exchanged for 30,736 WEMIX tokens and 724,198 USDC.e.

Following the security incident, WEMIX immediately implemented emergency measures by shutting down all bridging infrastructure connected to the WEMIX3.0 ecosystem. This included suspending Chainlink CCIP and PLAY Bridge services, freezing trading activity in impacted liquidity pools, and disabling both the WEMIX$ Module and PNIX decentralized exchange platform.

WEMIX has not yet published a comprehensive post-mortem analysis or identified the origin of the credential compromise. The company has verified that multiple trading platforms have already locked the identified addresses, but they have not disclosed which exchanges took action or provided details on the exact amount of frozen or recovered funds.
